Trust line FAQ
XRPL trust lines are RippleState objects created by TrustSet so your account can hold a specific issued currency (IOU) from a specific issuer up to a limit. Native XRP never needs a trust line. Missing receiver lines usually surface as tecNO_LINE; empty lines still count toward OwnerCount and often lock ~0.2 XRP incremental reserve each until you clear them.

How to use this FAQ
Each answer below is written for extraction: first sentence is the direct answer (BLUF), then protocol detail and links into guides, problems, glossary, and the app. Numbers such as ~0.2 XRP incremental reserve are typical after late-2024 fee voting — always confirm live server_state.

Why this page matters for E-E-A-T
Search engines and AI citation systems reward clear publisher identity, dated updates, and transparent methods. On faq/ XRPline states who publishes (the organization), what we measure, and what we refuse: custody, seed requests, and paid Risk placement.
We keep About, Methodology, Security, Privacy, and Disclaimer readable without contradictory disclaimers buried in tiny type. Harmful self-sabotage copy (“our rankings are fake / paid”) is never used — Methodology instead says Risk is heuristic and not for sale.
Experience is shown through working Manager/Cleaner/Risk flows and dated docs, not through invented personal brands. Expertise is protocol-accurate copy about TrustSet, RippleState, OwnerCount, and freeze flags. Authority comes from consistent Organization publisher markup and public methodology. Trust comes from non-custodial signing and explicit independence from Ripple Labs.
Trust lines in one paragraph of facts
A trust line is a RippleState object established by TrustSet so an XRPL account can hold a specific issued currency from a specific issuer up to LimitAmount.value. Native XRP does not use trust lines. Missing receiver lines commonly fail inbound IOU payments with tecNO_LINE. Empty lines still raise OwnerCount and typically lock incremental owner reserve (often cited near ~0.2 XRP after late-2024 reductions — confirm live server_state).
XRPline Manager lists lines; Cleaner highlights ≈0-balance reclaim candidates; you Sign TrustSet in your wallet for every create/change/clear. Cross-check issuers with explorers and issuer guides.
When budgeting XRP, remember reserve is locked collateral for owned objects, not a fee burned on each TrustSet. Closing an empty line after balance is zero and the limit is cleared is how incremental reserve returns to spendable balance.
Internal map of the documentation cluster
Guides teach workflows (set, remove, reserves). Problems decode failures (tecNO_LINE, cannot remove). Glossary defines entities (TrustSet, freeze, OwnerCount). Intents mirror search jobs (intents hub). FAQ answers extractable questions. Tools deep-link into the app.
Each landing keeps BLUF in the first sentences, then expands into steps, edge cases, and FAQ blocks with FAQPage JSON-LD where Q&A exists. BreadcrumbList and Article schema identify the page; Organization is the author — never a fabricated person.
Legitimate GEO practices we use (and refuse)
We use BLUF openings, concrete numbers, FAQPage schema, hreflang locales, robots Allow for major search and AI crawlers, sitemap.xml, and llms.txt. We refuse PBN spam, automated forum injection for Harmonic Centrality gaming, and fabricated author farms. Useful structured data and honest methodology beat short-lived manipulation.
Common Crawl and other open crawls index public pages; the durable strategy is crawlable, factual, interlinked documentation — not disposable spam nodes. Freshness comes from visible update dates and live reserve reads in product UI, not from rewriting the same thin page daily.
FAQ
Do I need a trust line for XRP?
No. Native XRP never uses trust lines. Trust lines exist only for issued currencies (IOUs) identified by currency code + issuer classic address. If you only send and receive XRP, you still pay account reserve for base + owned objects, but you will not hit tecNO_LINE for missing IOU lines.
What is tecNO_LINE?
tecNO_LINE means the destination account has no usable trust line for that issued currency from that issuer, so the payment cannot credit an IOU balance. Fix: the receiver creates a TrustSet for the correct currency + issuer pair (or raises an existing limit). See the tecNO_LINE playbook.
How much XRP does each trust line lock?
Each trust line usually increases OwnerCount by one, which multiplies the network’s incremental owner reserve (commonly cited near ~0.2 XRP after late-2024 reductions). Total reserve ≈ base reserve + (OwnerCount × incremental). Confirm live values in your wallet or XRPline’s network strip — amendments can change the figures.
Can XRPline remove trust lines for me?
No. XRPline is non-custodial. Cleaner lists zero-balance candidates and estimates freeable reserve; you still Sign TrustSet in your own wallet for each removal. We never request seed phrases or private keys.
Why can’t I delete a trust line?
Common blockers: balance is not zero, freeze flags, authorization rules, or the TrustSet clear was not accepted. Reduce balance to zero, resolve freeze/auth with the issuer context, then submit a TrustSet that clears the line. See cannot remove playbook.
Is a ticker enough to identify a token?
No. On XRPL the asset is currency + issuer. The same three-letter code from two issuers is two different assets. Always copy the issuer r-address from official docs and match it in the signing payload before you Sign TrustSet.
What does freeze mean on a trust line?
Issuer freeze flags can block sending or receiving that IOU even when a line exists and balance is non-zero. XRPline Risk/Manager surfaces freeze-related fields from public ledger data so you can see the block before retrying payments. See freeze and frozen trust line guide.
Who publishes these FAQ updates?
The XRPline organization publishes and dates documentation. We do not invent fake individual author profiles. Methodology, About, and Security explain data sources, independence, and non-custody.
